The company removed the ability to trade ingame currency among users and limited users' ability to purchase system currency from outside sources while adding even more security features by requiring cards or other forms of identification before buying virtual currency. The reason for the change was to prevent users from spending too much virtual currency on outside purchases of no value to the user. The system was a success, reducing the rate of fraud.[25]

ROBLOX has also been compared to popular game Minecraft. In many ways, they are similar; both games have been developed by one company Tencent and are usually sold on the same platform Windows, OS X, iOS, Android. Another close similarity is that they both have their own ingame currency system. However, Minecraft has a different style of gameplay relating to platforming; while ROBLOX players build and destroy using building blocks, Minecraft players explore a world.

In March 2018, ROBLOX introduced "VRChat", a game where players can create their own social VR experiences and attend live events. This game was released as a beta version on Steam Early Access in March 2018. A release on PlayStation 4 is planned for August 28, 2018.

In May 2018, it was reported that the company had over 300 million daily active players worldwide. This includes the users who are in moderation, which is approximately 95 of all players. In addition, based on their own estimates, they stated that over 50 of these players play Roblox daily.

On July 31st, 2019 ROBLOX released another version update for Studio 2.1 known as "Studio 2.1.1" which fixed a lot of major glitches and bugs that were present in previous versions of Studio and also included a better way for players to customize their own physics settings.
